GYLA Filed Complaint at Self Regulation Commission of Rustavi 2 TV Company

Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) filed a coplaint at self-regulation commission of Rustavi 2 TV Company.

GYLA considers that the December 12 report broadcasted in ‘Post Scriptum’ programme on release of citizens of Georgia unlawfully detained by the Ossetian side and negative role of our organization in the noted matter:

1. violates principles of due accuracy and objectivity established by the Law on Broadcasting of Georgia and the Broadcasters’ Code of Conduct and is misleading the audience;
2. Constitutes the attempt to incite anger and intolerance.
Under Article 14 of the Law on Broadcasters and according to the Broadcasters’ Code of Conduct, broadcasting license holders have the responsibility to establish bodies for reviewing complaints in frames of self-regulation.

GYLA considers that noted matter shall be reviewed in frames of self-regulation and the television company in commensurable manner shall correct and reject facts misleading the audience, which were cited in the programme prepared subjectively.

Under its own provision the television company has the responsibility to review the complaint and make the decision within 21 days.
