At this time, police officers are reportedly stopping citizens at metro stations and confiscating gas masks, masks, and other items.
According to police officers at the Freedom Square metro station (as reported by TV Pirveli at 21:02), they are conducting superficial searches.
It is important to clarify that, under the Law on Police, a police officer may conduct a superficial search as a preventive measure only in circumstances explicitly outlined by law. Furthermore, a superficial search is limited to touching the outer surface of a person's clothing with a hand, tool, or other means. Police officers are not authorized to request a person to open their bag or confiscate items during such a search.
Notably, items such as gas masks, protective masks, or face shields are not prohibited for transportation nor do they inherently pose a threat to life or health.
Given the lack of clarity about the chemical substances used by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to disperse demonstrations, the confiscation of protective equipment like gas masks constitutes a significant violation.
These actions by the police appear to be aimed at intimidating citizens and targeting peaceful protest participants, further undermining their rights and safety.
