Young Lawyers for Constitutional Rights

In frames of the series of human rights events, the Foundation for Support of Legal Education established by Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association traditionally held an Olympiad “Young Lawyers for Constitutional Rights” at the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

The Olympiad has been held annually for the last five years, in cooperation with the Constitutional Court, concurrently with GYLA’s traditional Human Rights Week. This year the Olympiad was financially supported by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).

This year total of 8 teams participated in the Olympiad, representing 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students of BA program of different schools.

The Olympiad was guided by the jury composed of members of the Constitutional Court, field specialists, professors, teachers and a judge from Germany.

Qualifying rounds of the Olympiad where semi-finalist teams were selected was held on December 9;

Semi-final where finalist teams were selected was held on December 10;

Final was held on December 11 and a celebratory event where participants were awarded by the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court marked conclusion of the Olympiad.

The closing ceremony featured announcement of a winning team, the best claimant, the best defendant and the Constitutional Court’s favorite participant were announced at the closing event. IRZ named the best participant who was awarded with a grand prize provided by IRZ.

Tbilisi State University’s team was announced as the best team (Levan Maisuradze, Giorgi Sulkhanishvili and Revaz Svanidze), a student of Tbilisi State University, Levan Maisuradze was announced as the Constitutional Court’s favorite participant and awarded with prizes, as well as a 6-month paid internship at the Constitutional Court. Levan Maisuradze was named as the best claimant, student of University of Georgia Khatia Rigishvili was named as the best defendant. IRZ named Levan Maisuradze as the best participant and awarded him with a grand prize – the winner will travel to Germany next summer.
