10th Session of the Assembly of State Parties (ASP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) was held on December 12021, 2011, in New-York.

The Assembly of State Parties is the management oversight and legislative body of the International Criminal Court.

The Assembly elected Fatou Bensouda (Gambia) as the new prosecutor of the International Criminal Court who assumed the office on June 16, 2012 for the period of 9 years.

Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, who is a member of the Georgian National Coalition for the International Criminal Court (GCICC), as well as a member of the Steering Committee of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC), made a statement before the Assembly of the ICC State Parties on December 14. The statement focused on the need to investigate crimes committed during the war between Georgia and Russia in 2008.

More than three years have passed since the announcement of the opening of a preliminary examination by the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) into the armed conflict between Georgia and Russia in August 2008. The OTP has stated that it is currently monitoring national investigations and prosecutions of these crimes in both Georgia and Russia. Due to the lack of effectiveness of the national investigation, GYLA calls on the General Prosecutor of ICC to start investigation into the alleged crimes committed during the 2008 conflict.

Informal Summary of ASP Outcomes is available at the CICC web-site:  http://coalitionfortheicc.org/?mod=newsdetail&news=4954.
