Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has been protecting Vasil Lomsadze’s interests, who allegedly  was beaten by Zaal Adamia, deputy head of Rustavi department of the Ministry of Interior and other employees of the police. Though Vasil Lomsadze reported about police offence committed against him, prosecution submitted charges to Vasil Lomsadze as per Para 1, Article 3531 of Penal Code of Georgia (police attack), instead of conducting impartial investigation and revealing possible offenders.

At Vasil Lomsadze’s trial, representatives of MIA allegedly implemented pressure on a witness testifying against Adamia. The witness, Amiran Dzebisashvili contacted GYLA and reported about pressure from the side of Police.

As Amiran Dzebisashvili alleges, on October 31, 2014 he was at Vasil Lomsadze’s trial in Rustavi City Court. Being questioned at the trial he stated about the fact of Vasil Lomsadze’s physical abuse by Zaal Adamia. When the break was announced at the trial and Amiran Dzebisashvili left the court (he had to bring an ID card from his house), some policemen dressed in civilian clothes pushed him in a car without any explanations. The same day, at the trial, Amiran Dzebisashvili stated that policemen implemented pressure on him and he had a reasonable doubt that he would have been accused in committing offence (they will put either drugs or firearms), therefore he was not able to return in Rustavi.

In addition, Amiran Dzebisashvili alleges that the same day he contacted the General Inspection of the Ministry of Interior of Georgia via hotline and informed them about the fact. Operator told him that employees of the General Inspection will contact him for details, thought nobody communicated with him so far. Therefore, it is unclear what will be response of the General Inspection on the fact.
GYLA calls on the Prosecutor’s Office to examine forgoing facts immediately, thoroughly and effectively  and to launch investigation.
