The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has actively observed the elections of legislative, executive and local government bodies since its founding (in 1994), trying to contribute to the conduct of elections in a calm and fair environment and to the steadfast observance of the Georgian legislation during electoral processes.

GYLA: INCREASE OF FUNDING FOR LEGAL ENTITIES OF PUBLIC LAW AND NON-ENTREPRENEURIAL (NON-COMMERCIAL) LEGAL ENTITIES ENVISAGED BY THE STATE BUDGET FOR 2017 INCREASES THE RISK OF IRRATIONAL EXPENDITURES

On 18 October of the current year, the State Audit Office published a report regarding the draft law on the State Budget of Georgia for 2017. The part of the report related to legal entities of public law and non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities. The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association finds the information provided in the report of the State Audit Office to be of concern, namely, the information in the draft State Budget for 2017 with regard to legal entities of public law and non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities.

The Coalition for Equality responds to the brutal beating of a transgender woman on October 14 and calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to carry out a timely and effective investigation of the case

According to media reports, on October 14th, a transgender woman was brutally beaten by two men in Ortachala. The victim suffered multiple injuries, including multiple stab wounds to her neck and broken facial bones. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the case is under investigation in accordance with Article 108, attempted murder.

Assessment of the Election Day on October 8 2016 Parliamentary Elections

GYLA observed the Election Day on October 8, 2016 in Tbilisi and 9 regions (Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Kakheti, Mtskheta- Mtianeti, Guria, Imereti, Adjara) 61 districts with around 500 observers.

GYLA condemns the vandalism at Jikhashkari

Today, around 23:00 during the vote count and result summarisation, the unknown individuals broke into the polling station #108 of the Zugdidi district (village Jikhashkari). Those individuls threw stones and broke the windows of the polling station; entered the building by use of force, scattered the ballotts, and damaged the electoral inventory. One policeman was present at the polling station who naturally was not able to respond adequately to the violent situation;  Additional police forces came only later on.

GYLA continues observing the course of the polling day. Overall, the polling process is taking place in calm environment and no major violations have been revealed.

GYLA condemns the violence and calls on the electoral subjects and their supporters to remain calm

The situation at the Marneuli #48 precinct inside as well as adjacent territory is extremely intense. Dozens of citizens equipped with stones and bats were mobilized at the adjacent territory, of the polling station, who attempted to break into the polling station. The building was damaged, windows broken and the activists gathered outside attempted to enter the building. Police was present at the spot, however, in insufficient number, not being able sustain the attack of the aggressive mob. The video camera of the TV channel “Imedi” was damaged.

Results of the Observation of the Polling day as of 10:00 a.m.

By 10 a.m. the polling process is taking place in calm environment. The majority of the precincts observed by the GYLA were ready to receive the first voter. These precincts were equipped with the respective election materials.
