As it is known to the public, on May 17, 2018, while Nika Gorgiladze was addressing the anti-homophobic protest rally in the vicinity of the Georgian government's administrative building, he was attacked. [1] As of today, the investigation is in progress.
GYLA expresses its concern about the events that followed the above fact, namely Nika Gorgiladze receives threatening messages via social networks, and as Nika says, he constantly becomes the victim of aggression and insult in streets or public transport. Violence and threats are so intense that Nika's daily lifestyle is under threat. He permanently experiences the sense of insecurity and fear.
In connection with the violence against Nika Gorgiladze, GYLA has addressed the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia as well as the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and requested to respond to the above facts and carry out special protection measures for Nika.
It is important that the state should protect all citizens and ensure their safety, regardless of sexual orientation or any other sign.
