Over the recent years public has witnessed many cases where companies affiliated with the name of former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili moved ancient trees. The process continues today while public interest in the issue is soaring.

GYLA has decided to closely follow and examine how different administrative bodies made decisions authorizing these moves, from December 2015 to present. More specifically, it will look into whether the administrative bodies abided by requirement of the law in the decision-making process. To this end, the organization has already applied to the Government of Georgia, the National Agency of State Property, Ajara A/R Government and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Ajara A/R, as well as to municipalities of Batumi, Kobuleti, Khelvachauri and Ozurgeti. GYLA continues to work on the matter and it will provide public with additional information in the near future.

The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association urges administrative bodies to act within constraints of the law during the decision-making process.
