The Statement of the Largest Cultural Heritage Organization in Europe on Sakdrisi-Kachaghiani

On January 14 2015, the largest European union, working on the cultural heritage matters – Europa Nostra has publicized an official statement on the events, surrounding Sakdrisi-Kachaghiani. 

According to the statement, Europa Nostra urges all parties concerned to take all necessary measures to stop the destruction of this unique heritage site, which, Europa Nostra mentions, is the oldest known gold mine in the world according to various international experts. 
 
Europa Nostra further expresses its solidarity towards the campaign, which aims at saving Sakdrisi-Kachaghiani and expresses readiness to support the civil society to prevent any further destruction on the site of Sakdrisi-Kachaghiani. 
 
The organization has also joined the petition, which has been initiated to prevent the demolition of Sakdrisi-Kachaghiani. The petition is signed by more than 250 persons from 28 different countries all over the world. 
 
Europa Nostra represents the largest union working on the cultural heritage matters, which unites more than 5 million people, 250 member organizations and 150 associated organizations (among others, corporations, such as VOLVO, governmental bodies, local authorities). Europa Nostra closely cooperates with the widely-known organizations, for example, such as UNESCO and Council of Europe.
