Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary Hosts a Public Forum on State Policy towards Past Human Rights Violations
Stephen M. Haykin, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director, Tea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice of Georgia and Manana Kobakhidze, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament will open a public forum on State Policy towards Past Human Rights Violations. The Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary is hosting the forum on June 17, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel.
The forum will bring together government and civil society stakeholders to discuss the issues of state policy towards past human rights violations. The Coalition will provide recommendations to the state in order to achieve justice for past violations while safeguarding the process from political retribution.
The Coalition will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to engage in an open and transparent discussion aimed at providing a greater understanding of the issues.
Representatives of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the government as well as practicing lawyers, journalists, international donor organizations, and experts in the field are expected to attend. This is the12th forum in a series organized by the Coalition. The Coalition unites 34 non-governmental organizations including legal professionals, business associations, and media organizations to promote an independent and transparent judiciary by monitoring relevant judicial practices and advocating for reforms.
The forum is supported by the U.S. Government through USAID’s Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (PROLoG) activity, which is implemented by the East-West Management Institute.
