Property Rights

Protection of property rights has been one of the priorities of the work of GYLA for over the years. Frequency and scale of violation of property rights has become a concern of human rights organizations a number of times. 

Promoting Protection of Property Rights in Anaklia, Mestia and Kobuleti Project was carried out from January 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012, with the support and funding of the Open Society – Georgia Foundation, and in partnership with the Transparency International – Georgia, Association of Regional Media of Georgia and Association Green Alternative. 

Purpose of the project was to promote protection of property rights in new tourist destinations (Anaklia, Mestia, Kobulet) as well as practicing of property rights and guarantees stipulated by the Constitution and international norms. It also aimed at decreasing risks of property rights infringement and improving quality of protection of property rights of the population/ 

In frames of the project, total of 3 reports have been prepared: 

  1. Problems to Protection of Property Rights – the Case of Gonio. This report focuses on violations of property rights of 271 owners. 
  2. Problems to Protection of Property Rights – the case of Daba Mestia. This report focuses on most common violations of property rights in Mestia. 
  3. Unprotected Property Rights – this report entails the following: 

In 2007 GYLA published a research Property Rights in Georgia, reflecting applicable international standards, legal gaps in Georgian laws and a number of instances of gross violation of property rights in Georgia. GYLA’s central office and its offices in the region have been providing legal aid to victims of property rights violations for over the years now, through consultations as well as legal service.
