Report on IDP Situation will be Prepared 10 Years after the War

On 19 April 2018, at the community center of v.Koda IDP Settlement in Tetritskaro District, representatives of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) held a meeting with individuals affected by the August 2008 war. The meeting focused on investigation of war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC) launched two years ago by the ICC Office of the Prosecutor. During the meeting, GYLA representatives provided the war-affected individuals with information on the ICC, the ongoing investigation and their rights in this process.

Representatives of the organization also conducted individual interviews with IDPs living in the settlement using special questionnaires, with the aim of studying current needs and problems of IDPs and preparing a special report based on the information obtained through the questionnaires on the situation of IDPs 10 years after the war. Additionally, the collected information will be analyzed and provided to different bodies of the ICC and to the trust fund of the war-affected population.

The visit was conducted in frames of the project Participation of Civil Society in the Investigation of the Situation of Georgia by the International Criminal Court. The project is implemented by nongovernmental organizations that are members of the Georgian Coalition for the International Criminal Court – the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, Human Rights Center, Article 42 of the Constitution, Center for Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture and Justice International, - and financially supported by the Open Society – Georgia Foundation.
