Coalition for ,,Euro Atlantic Georgia’’ supports the peace initiative ,,Step for a Better Future’’

The Coalition for ,,Euro Atlantic Georgia’’ welcomes and supports the peace initiative of the Government of Georgia ,,Step for a Better Future’’, which was developed through the public involvement and a package of relevant legislative amendments.

We believe that the successful implementation of the initiative, which involves the trade promotion on both sides of the dividing lines, along with development of important opportunities for getting quality education and creation of appropriate mechanisms will facilitate the use of all benefits, which become available on the path of  Georgia`s development and European integration and create further incentive and basis for improving humanitarian and socio-economic conditions of people living in both Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, as well as,  movement of people living along the dividing lines and establish relations built on common grounds.

Effective implementation of the initiative, primarily within the country and together with international partners, is to ensure correct, coherent and coordinated steps that will contribute to the development and advancement of our country.

Implementation of the initiative together with its basic directions in real life will not be easy and we might encounter many complications on the way. Consequently, we appeal to the Government of Georgia to support the consensus of all European socio-political forces on the issue and make significant effort to address the initiative with constructive and unified position. It is crucially important to use the right mechanisms and forms for dialogue and cooperation with Abkhazians and Ossetians, which have been successfully tested in international practice in different regions.

We appeal to the Georgian Parliament and the political forces to support the package of relevant legislative amendments through constructive discussions.

We reiterate our readiness to take an active part in the successful implementation of the initiative.
